Taking Pride In Our Heritage
The Heritage Group was established following the consultation of the Parish Plan in the villages of Claxton & Sand Hutton.
The core group meet regularly and initially we produced "The Heritage Trail" which details sites of natural and historic
interest in both villages. This shows a detailed map which allows people to walk the Heritage Trail, a circular route between the two villages.
We launched this in 2009 and had a "Heritage Day" in the Village Hall celebrating our roots. At this event we were able to show the miniature Sand Hutton Light Railway model produced by Peter
Kaiser.
Since then we have had quarterly meetings in the village hall with speakers and will advertise future meetings on the website.
We have made links with the “Time Line” history groups in York and also ones in Ryedale.
We have a wealth of history to explore and look forward to compiling our heritage information for all to share.
In the future we hope to explore and record more of our local history by taking oral histories and possible field walking. If you have any memories, photographs or artefacts we could borrow or
catalogue we would be very grateful.
We would welcome anyone to come and join us.
